naruto 6 and 13 pls!
Hi, cowboy :) thanks for the ask
6. Which ship fans are the most annoying?
I block anyone I find annoying, so the fact that I'm actually able to think of several groups of people kind of blows my mind lol. First would be the fans who take shipping way too seriously. They hate on other people for deviating from their version of canon, start insane discourse, sometimes even harass creators of the show, etc. Idk if I even have to explain why that pisses me off. It's just in really bad taste. Quit bothering people. Fandom is for enjoyment, don't spend your fandom time telling people how much you hate them or why they're wrong. Chill tf out
Then are the fans who don't participate in shipping (this is the okay part) and THEN talk about how stupid shipping is and how inherently annoying it is. People are entitled to their opinions obviously. I understand (especially as an aroace person) how shipping can be reductive and how people get obsessed. But at some point you have to take responsibility for curating your own experience. Don't like shipping? That's great. Block everyone who posts ship and only follow people who don't. Problem solved. Don't whine about how annoying shipping is IN THE SHIPPING TAG. Just fucking braindead, I can't
In the naruto fandom specifically, I think the shipping that pisses me off the most are the above types of bloggers, as well as people who ship things I find personally repulsive. Like *nc*st or p*do shit. Lots of that in the naruto fandom unfortunately.
13. Worst blorboficiation?
The most impossible naruto question challenge LMAO where do I even fucking start. This fandom beats the absolute shit out of good characters at the drop of a hat. Some of it is fine, I get it, I'm guilty of it, but other times it's hugely reductive. If character assassination were a crime punishable by death, I fear we tumblrinas would be having this conversation while we waited in line for the electric chair.
There are lots of characters I see blorbofied beyond recognition: Madara, Hashirama, Kakashi, Gai, Lee, Tsunade, Obito, literally anyone in the Akatsuki- I could go on and on. I think though, the one who sticks out to me is definitely Itachi. I see SOOOO many depictions of wet, crying, pitiful Itachi when he gives absolutely no hint of any of that on screen. Am I saying he doesn't cry? Doesn't feel? Absolutely not. But there's a thousand different ways to make a character emotional. I barely ever see in character portrayals of Itachi, in my opinion, especially when delving into who he is behind closed doors, what he thinks about his clan/upbringing, how he feels about Sasuke and the massacre he committed. I could mop the floor with him he is so sopping wet in all of this fanart. It drives me up the fucking wall. I've written a lot of detailed notes analyzing his character, and I myself appreciate how he was a victim (along with many other things), but most of the time I feel people stop at just the victim part. Idk why they want him to cry so bad. Idk what makes them think HE would think he deserves to grieve or be forgiven. Idk why they oversimplify his motives or make him out like he doesn't understand what he did and why. makes me actually insane. ffs there are beautiful flawed characters here with winding, painful, morally grey journeys. appreciate the nuance jesussss if i see one more big doe-eyed teared up itachi sniveling to kisame i'm going to be on the news

For the choose violence ask game: 6, 7, 12 with bsd?
6. which ship fans are the most annoying?
The most popular ship in every fandom always has the biggest number of fans acting like jerks bcs, y’know, more ppl always means more chances, plain statistics... And we all know what ship it is here cjfjfjfj (I do like it, but y'know)
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
Didn't really get to fully hate him and and moved past it, but I had a phase of being so mad at Fukuchi bcs of 1) chapter 88 and 2) a certain group of twt ppl insisting he was better than Mori in terms of morals when they're basically doing similar things 😭
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
I have a few but gonna go with Naomi bcs she's so underrated. Like, she's very smart and bold, and not enough ppl acknowledge her

what if the animorphs got the death note?
Cassie: Would burn the thing. Doesn't care if she dies in the process. It's worth it, to get it out of the world's hands.
Marco: Would go on a fact-finding spree to figure out the names of as many yeerks as he possibly can. Would figure out that some stems (e.g. Iniss) are followed by multiple sets of numbers, and would give himself carpal tunnel writing Iniss 0000 - Iniss 9999 in the notebook. Would claim to his friends that he also doesn't know why a mysterious disease has killed so many yeerks lately.
Jake: Would ask the group what they should do with it. Whether Rachel and Marco would succeed in arguing for it before Cassie and Ax succeeded in arguing against it is anyone's guess.
Ax: Would never use it. Would probably also give it back to the group. Controversial opinion, I know, but he cares deeply about fighting fair and with honor. If he could figure out a way to use it to save his friends he might, but he'd probably vote to bury it in the woods if forced to cast a vote.
Rachel: Would use it. And then stop using it. She fights those who are stronger than her, and spares those who are weaker. Any time she can use it against a yeerk with an involuntary host she will... but those names are hard to find, and she's not going to stop mid-battle to pull out a pen. She'd conclude it's no good as a weapon, but if Marco asked she'd announce she got rid of it because it takes all the excitement out of the war.
Tobias: Even more controversial take, but. If anyone would go full Light Yagami, I think it's him. He's the one pushing to use the Time Matrix to "fix" history in MM3. He's the one who kills Hitler after learning this is just a jeep driver, because he's Hitler. He argues with the Ellimist, and thinks he could do better. He sees the world as injust, and he's angry about it. He would argue it's immoral not to use the Death Note. I could see Tobias writing down every Visser's name... and then Pol Pot's... and then Charles Manson's... and then Taylor's... and going from there.
#animorphs#death note#animorphs characters#tobias fangor#rachel berenson#i'm aware 'tobias would choose violence while rachel would choose restraint' is a weird take#idk it just fits with their fighting styles and moral philosophies if you ask me

Miko: Like a cheap French harlot

Tbh, Knock Out would be more insulted by the insinuation that he's tacky. The exquisite care on his frame is not cheap.

Lmao, you know Alastor 1000% used malicious compliance when he was alive, but this is probably one of the few times he's had to use it since dying and becoming a terrifying eldritch tentacle deerman. Think Alastor normally noms his own sheddings, or was that purely out of spite towards Carmilla?
Malicious compliance king <3
He could've explained his situation to Carmilla but he really went hmmm, no. I'm going to make everyone uncomfortable instead.
Alastor does nom his sheddings (its very tasty) but doing it in front of Carmilla while making full eye contact was 100% out of spite.

17. there should be more of this type of fic/art

I wish we had more fan works revolving around Wendy and Webber and their parents, especially Wendy and Jack Carter have so much angst and fluff potential, but everyone seems to ignore the existence of their parents because they want Wilson to be their parent instead 😞

2,3,5 from that violent ask game
2. Riz Gukgak would not top nor bottom as he is ace.
5. Gonna put 3 at the bottom because it's the only long one; I'm not putting any discord server I'm in on blast because like, that's obnoxious but I will say that before they mostly shut it down the Dropout one was AWFUL, and I think the Beacon mods are much, much better than the Dropout mods were but I will admit that I exclusively use it for the AMAs/Firesides and announcements; I'm not really interested in any of the discussion going on there.
3. So I'm going with worst relatively recent take, and it will have a long lead-in. So fandoms tend to use a lot of epithets/words as code for a set of traits that may or may not be true. Top and Bottom are one example, with Top also usually used (not entirely accurately) as a shorthand for traits like confidence and decisiveness and dominance, because apparently fandom has not moved on from the stereotypes held by ancient Romans when it comes to gay sex. Then there's the words that have a therapy/social justice aspect to them, and to be clear, in many cases they are accurate but they are also a very broad category: Thoreau Lionett and Trent Ikithon are both abusers, but that is insufficient terminology to actually discuss who they are as people, the harm they inflicted on Beau and Caleb respectively, and to understand Beau and Caleb as people, because not all abuse takes the same form nor looks the same nor is the same degree of harmful. And in the same vein, the abused person or victim is also one of those shorthands, and tends to be a shorthand for assigning that person "lack of agency/can't be blamed for what they do", which is inaccurate (and indeed it's heavily implied Thoreau is part of a cycle).
That's all an example. The word we're going to talk about is one that's very popular in social justice/internet leftism circles, and it's Colonizer. The Colonizer is The Ultimate Evil; the Colonized the Ultimate Victim (abused/abuser was the trend a few years ago, and yes, it is a trend, because as discussed this isn't about actually discussing these characters with depth and nuance: it's all the Fandom Moral Purity/My Blorbo Is Justified And I'm A Good Person And You're Bad For Not Liking Them Enough framework). Anyway, people have assigned Ludinus Da'leth the status of "white colonized person". To be clear, in real life, there are white Europeans who have been subject to at least some degree of colonization (by other white Europeans), notably everyone else in the British Isles by the English and much of eastern Europe and north central Asia by the Russian Empire, but this was used to somehow equate him to white people in the Southern US who are, in fact, of the colonizing group, and specifically his alienation from his own culture, and how this is somehow unique to the Southern US; and also how this doesn't make him comparable to a Trump voter.
Let's unpack how fucking bad this is:
This would make an entire separate post but Exandria works very badly for colonization metaphors because there is mortal colonization in Exandria, but it tends to shy away from being nearly as brutal and complete as it is in our world. It's also notable that the only place that has, to our knowledge, experienced no colonization on its shores (and in fact has colonized others), is Marquet, the continent that draws from SWANA, South Asian, and SEAsian cultures (ie, places that in our world were heavily subjected to European colonization, though there were of course empires in those regions themselves). That isn't to say you can't discuss it, but you need to tread exceptionally carefully.
Ludinus was orphaned by war. It was a global war of the gods for the survival of mortals. It's not easy to place using real-world metaphors but it was not motivated by colonialism; he was not colonized. He then, incidentally, proceeded to destroy the center of Wildemount's elven culture, ie, he was the one who displaced people into Bysaes Tyl (subject to some degree of assimilation by the Empire, in which he personally became a powerful figure, which the elves are still opposing) and Uthodurn (managed to actually meld and blend cultures peacefully while maintaining distinct traditions but did involve some compromises re: elven culture). He is not remotely comparable to colonized people and is indeed deeply complicit in the displacement of others and their own forced assimilation himself (which the post touches on but, as most defenses of Ludinus do, because obviously they have to, ignores the ludicrous quantity of blood on his hands).
American whiteness, and especially in the US South, is a construct to justify the oppression of people of color. If you are white and American and do not know your heritage to a specific region of Europe, it is either because someone in your family tree was orphaned at a young age (valid, understandable, super not related to colonialism) or because your ancestors prioritized Not Being Black Or Native over Being [English, Scottish, German, whatever]. Which is not your fault, but you are not really a victim of anyone but your ancestors' racism. It was also a voluntary assimilation into the oppressor class for the benefits it offered, vs the much more forced one that nonwhite, non-European, and non-Christian (and to an extent non-Protestant) people were subjected to. The idea that white Americans are in some way denied their heritage of Whiteness is quite specifically a white supremacist talking point - there are plenty of white European cultural celebrations out there (eg, Polish or Italian festivals). There is a concept of generalized African-American heritage in the US due to enslaved people actually being deprived of their specific heritage and traditions and developing a semi-pan-West African culture that is distinct from that of modern voluntary African immigrants to the US (and even then there are specific subsets, like the Gullah-Geechee); General Whiteness is purely a justification to oppress others. (This is a good recent post that puts this succinctly).
this is also... literally what most white Trump voters are - white people who may experience other forms of oppression (socioeconomic) but also might just miss being as powerful an oppressor class themselves and who use their whiteness to oppress others.
so yeah in an effort to defend White Man Who Killed A Lot of People, unsurprisingly, we got straight up racist propaganda talking points, presented with the language of social justice.

lol naruto 19 and 24
top ask sender is back at it again (carrying my blog on ur back LMAO)
19. You're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like...
I don't feel angry or ashamed or horrified that I like anything cuz I'm not catholic LOL jk I actually was raised in the church so I'm horrified I like any character with religious affiliation. How's that for an uno reverse?
Characters like Hidan for example are a bit of a doubled edged sword to be obsessed with for me. Getting hyperfixated on characters who have or could have religious trauma sometimes gets a little too close to home. Makes me angry sometimes that I relate to them when they're a character who's concerned with reconciling or being good enough for a god or people serving a god. Makes me feel grossed out, like I should know better, but it's a hard feeling to abandon when it was all I knew for almost 20 years.
Anyway, all things good to those who wait, so next time I get into Hidan or someone else who was horribly mangled by a religious fixture, maybe I'll feel mad but maybe also I'll iron out a little more of that trauma myself :)
24. Topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
In the naruto fandom, FOR ME, it's totally conversations about parents/parenting/parental figures. I am so pissed off how much people brush over the fact that naruto is at least partially or was at some point a narrative about how children are affected when they're given very adult responsibilities. In this case, it's killing and deciding how to keep people from dying. They're literally put in charge of people's lives before they'd even fucking be graduating high school. And there is literally no place these children can go where they can be free of that burden or not hear about how important it is to be ready at all times to defend your nation.
Anyway, I've already written about that ten thousand times, what I'm talking about here is how some people are fucking stupid about it. The level that some motherfuckers are at in the disregarding children's rights olympics which apparently exists on this website is fucking astronomical. Like the average tumblr user's ability to spot emotional or physical abuse and neglect is alright when it's Gaara, whose father tried to kill him repeatedly and then forced the only caretaker Gaara ever knew to kill themself in front of him. We do alright there.
But whenever I want to talk about how Fugaku was a bad dad, suddenly there are people appearing out of the woodwork to make an argument like the ONLY scenes we have with Fugaku aren't him emotionally neglecting and pitting his sons against each other. And imagine how it would go if Fugaku was just a little bit hotter.
You don't understand how livid this makes me. People can like whoever they like. I like Spirit from Soul Eater, THE worst most pathetic horrible bare minimum father who exists. But I say it. I am SICK of people thinking to like a character, they have to be good. You have to defend them or it means something about you. Just fucking say he's a bad father, whatever reasons you like him are your own business, it isn't hurting anyone. DO NOT LIE AND MAKE A GOOD FATHER OF SOMEONE WHO COULDN'T EVEN TELL HIS KINDERGARTEN AGE SON HE WAS PROUD OF HIM.
Fucking purity culture is just making a bunch of us into apologists who don't know how to appreciate complex media, it's not actually doing whatever the fuck they want it to do (make people like bad people less?? idfkkk) ANYWAY everyone needs to stop saying Fugaku is a good father and Jiraiya was a good mentor and the 3rd Hokage was good for naruto or they're gonna have to put me on the no fly list.

Ooooh, asks game :D ! 12? 15? 17? 22? (feel free to ignore one or more of those if that's too many, obvs)
#12: the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
Not exactly an unpopular character, but more people should like Martian Manhunter. Why? Cause he’s cool, that’s why.
#15: that one thing you see in fanart all the time
This one is hard. I don’t really know? But I love chibi batfam or justice league stuff.
#17: there should be more of this type of fic/art
Jason Todd with the All-Blades. It should be way more of a thing.
#22: your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
Again, Jason. Todd. With. The. All-Blades.

people will see a character who has devoted his life to protecting someone else (which involves violence) and go "mm yes he is Baby. in fact he is a sweet summer child cinnamon roll." and i Do Not Get It. people love reducing characters to tropes and archetypes and most of the time they don't even do it right???
LITERALLY. I know I bring it up all the time but wen ning does throw a full grown adult man clean through a stone wall. he shoves his hand through someone's back and into their internal organs. the list goes on. to me wen ning is six and a half feet talk and built like a fucking ox. wen ning is huge. this makes sense from a literal standpoint (physically strong usually equals higher muscle and body fat content) and from a character designt standpoint ("generally shy and self conscious character who is absolutely towering and jacked as hell" always hits)
and thee thing abt wen ning especially is like he has such a unique and interesting relationship to violence and anger that is just Ignored in favor of uwu little sweet baby cinnamon roll uwu and it Enrages me. wen ning who grew up being told by his family to never do physical harm to another person, to use your time and skills to heal others rather than to harm them, while simultaneously under the "protection" of a cruel and power hungry man who was at the head of an infamously violent and punishing sect. wen ning whose first act of direct physical violence against another person was done both to his abusers, and while under what was, essentially, mind control. wen ning who grew up being weak and frail and easy to push around but who, on purpose or not, was transformed into a living weapon against his will. wen ning who, as you said, has dedicated his life to protecting someone with his body, which undeniably involves physical violence. wen ning who is so often looked down upon and belittled and degraded but who CHOOSES to be kind and gentle and quiet. wen ning who has his own rage and anger and seeks his own revenge outside of his reality as a fierce corpse that can be puppeted around by other people. wen ning who fucking took whips from zidian like it was nothing and then stood up and called the sandu shengshou an ungrateful coward and a bitch to his face. he literally contains multitudes upon multitudes and nobody even cares. fucked up
#he's also SUCH a fascinating foil to jiang cheng who uses physical violence to lash out at people rather than to protect them#and who chooses to indulge his anger over his tenderness#which is the opposite of wen ning#such interesting and powerful narrative and character things going on wirt wen nings violence#and everyone is like actually this is a sweet little baby who couldn't throw a punch if he tried. come ON#ask#anon#wen ning

6 and 8 for Dragon Age! Choose violence!!!!
🔥 Choose Violence Ask Meme 🔥
6. which ship fans are the most annoying?
I'm gonna be perfectly honest: I have drawn my little circle of Dragon Age fandom such that I really don't find any shippers annoying. I also basically like all of the canon romances I've played on some level and there are none that I have a visceral Nope about, and as far as non-canon romances I cannot find it in myself to get bent out of shape about rare pairs, which is what most non-canon ships end up as, realistically.
My hot take is that in this fandom, anyone who leads with "X shippers are the WORST EVER--" is about to be far more annoying than any of the shippers I know.
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts is a good quest.
In many ways, I think it's actually comparable to playing A Paragon of Her Kind as a non-dwarf. In both quests, people often complain about not having access to all the information about the candidates, by which they mean that the game does not hand them a piece of paper explaining to them why one candidate is the Good One and the other Bad, what's that noise oh it's me banging trash can lids together in your backyard and hollering THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BENEVOLENT MONARCHY, THERE IS NO GOOD MONARCH, POWER THAT CONCENTRATED CAN ONLY BE SUSTAINED WITH BLOOD, ALL YOU CAN DO IS DECIDE WHICH ONE IS GOING TO DO THE LEAST HARM AND/OR IS MOST EASILY MANIPULATED BY PARTIES YOU WISH TO SUPPORT.
Coughs. What I mean is, the frustrating lack of information given to you, an outsider, is kind of the point. No matter who you play as the Inquisitor, you are canonically not Orlesian and you do not know the Imperial Court intimately no matter how politically savvy your character may be. You are an outsider, and to many people a dangerous one. You are here as a guest; you were not invited with the intent of letting you choose the ruler of a sovereign nation, and people are not simply going to hand you information to that end. Even some of your advisors may have personal motivations for withholding information that you would have liked to know, perhaps because of their own involvement or complicity in certain events. You know. Perhaps.
So you have to do your own digging. You have to climb trellises and sneak into locked rooms. You might get lucky opening the right doors and finding something really useful, or you might not. You might say the right thing to the right person and get a valuable lead, or you might fumble it never knowing what you could have had.
We love to poke fun at the RPG tropes of every NPC immediately giving you their life story and asking you to solve all their problems. Isn't it kind of interesting when a game doesn't do that--when you have to take your own initiative if you want a specific outcome, when other characters aren't just dumping information on you and assuming that you'll act on it in a specific way?
I think one of the most interesting aspects of WEWH is that you can in fact choose to do nothing. Yes, you have to follow the basic outline of the quest, but at the critical moment you can just not intervene and allow Florianne to stab Celene and Gaspard to take the throne--effectively, letting things play out as they would have had the Inquisition done nothing. Gaspard of course winks and treats you as an ally because you assumes you're complicit, but you could in fact just have been indifferent. Game mechanics make it obvious you're making a choice, but in-universe it's simply that you have chosen not to act.
And if you do choose to act, you do not get a guaranteed Good Option. No, you don't get to flip the tables and completely overturn the social order of a sovereign nation of which, again, you are not even a citizen. You have to work with the situation you're in, and try to bend it to whatever advantage you see fit. You get no guarantees.
Sure, there a few places where I think WEWH fumbles the ball, but on the whole I think it's a brilliant union of storytelling and creative game mechanics.
